An evening in Brussels
How do you get around in Brussels with a wheelchair??
Walking around (luckily I can walk) an evening in Brussels I realise how fortunate I am. First of all; the roads are cobble stoned and all the sidewalks (when they exist) has got high kerbs, second; you can not access any of the restaurants or shops in town with a wheelchair!
And this in the centre, almost capital, of Europe!! Well, the EU delegates probably only see the nice new EU buildings with ramps and elevators, but surely they must also been in the town centre, looking at the attractions, buying souvenirs and having dinner.
Isn’t it time to move from nice talk about accessibility to really take action!!??
Thanks a lot Roger in my name and on the behalf of all wheelchair users.

Indeed, i think that the entire EU needs to start moving for accessibility...
How about the US?

The united states has some areas that are bull**** for accessibility... my town needs to work on better sidewalks, buildings are good, but sidewalks will rattle you and your powerchair to pieces!
I think because the U.S. does not have as much history as the rest of the world, we are a little more accessible. Not perfect, but a little better. You have to admit that paving over an historic cobblestone street would be a difficult decision. We don't have all that history here, and we also have many regulations for new buildings, so things are a little better.
I stress little.
