New to my Tobii Community - Hello from the USA!!!

I am in the process of purchasing a mytobii device for my daughter. She seems very excited at the ease of use. It is a big investment dollar wise and to that end I would like to hear form parents who are satisfied with this device. How has it changed the life of your child? What ways have you found to use the device that has opened up your child's world. Natassia is 19 years old and is using Dynovox technology.

Thank YOU!

Guiselle

Hi,
We purchased my tobii for our son some 17 months ago. He is aged 21yrs and has no speech. Prior to my tobii he had the use of a pathfinder which he operated with chin switches. These were very very cumbersome.

The my tobii has been amazing allowing him to interact much more quickly and easily. He has made lots of different grids for speech using the grid. Accessing the internet is another plus and being able to txt your friends by mobile.

However, I must point out that there are some minor problems you might want to consider.
ie. The tobii screen is very difficult to see and use in direct sunlight. We have tried all kinds of shading but can`t overcome this problem. Also , although the my tobii we purchased is mobile it does not have an integrated battery and batteries need to be purchased in addition, alongwith the charger.
Something else you may want to consider if you are purchasing the mobile version of my tobii and your daughter drives a wheelchair- once the screen is mounted your view forward is blocked to a large extent and driving would be very dangerous to say the least.

We have seen all versions of the available eye tracking devices and can say that the my tobii is the most sophisticated by far. We are looking forward to a continued improvement on design which we are sure will come in time. I would also like to point out that the staff at my tobii are always very polite and helpful if you have any questions or comments to make.
We wish you all the best and hope these comments have been helpful.

Kind regards Sue (Mother)

Dear Guiselle,

I just now came across your post. I'm interested in knowing-did you ever get the Tobii? If so, did you like it? My son uses a Dynavox right now & we're thinking of switching. Just wondering if you could compare the two?:)

Thanks!
