Ideas on how to improve the community site
hi all,
I was thinking about how this community site could be improved and this idea came across. would be nice if in the users` profiles the pictures could be enlarged so like this we all could have a better look at eachother.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your indeas on how we could improve the community. I will see how this can be done - any improvements we do to the community you will see for yourself througout the year.
regards,
Sara
Hi Everyone,
Chris, I like your idea.
Also, I'd like to see information about users, so that we could maybe get in touch with people we can relate to or that may be able to help us.
So, when you click on someone's profile, you could see a larger version of their picture, as Chris suggested. You could also see maybe why they're here.
For example, someone might write:
29 year old that has been using mytobii for 6 months. Prior to that, used a single switch attached at the knee and a Dynavox with auto scan.
Just an idea...not sure if there's already something like that and I just didn't see it, or if there is a problem with it.
Thanks!
-Jess
Great idea's Chris and Jess! I am totally agree with you.

thank you for your support, it seems I can have good ideas sometimes ;)

just a quick note:
I think it would be useful if there was a profile of each user available. one clicks on my name and a few things appear about me. eg.: location, nationality, how long have been using tobii for, etc. also, enlargable profile pictures again.

Hi Chris and everyone else!
Thanks again for all your inputs - they are extremely valuable for us in the process of improving the community!

I would like to see the ability to subscribe to a thread so that the system will E-Mail me when there is a new response inside that thread.
I know this feature is on various other forum systems, and should not be very hard to implement.
:) keep up the great work tobii corporation :D
nice one i aggree

Love the idea Alin
The ability to have a more complete profile including birth date, location and some other cool info, maybe even a place where you can put the tobii model you use and version number for software and other devices you use...
would be great Alin! Trouble is that we have already come up with quite a few ideas but nothing has changed yet. :( On the other hand, where are the other users?

I have a feeling tobii corp threw mytobiicommunity.com into their deadpool? we should call and ask and if they did deadpool it ask if we could acquire it from them for free.... of course i would start screwing with the forum admin panel to see if some of said feautres are already built in and not enabled. or we could switch the community to PHPBB3... so many options....
ANd yes, i know that there are a good number of mytobii users on this planet, and all of them cant complain "i cant come on the forum, i dont have a computer" you got a computer sitting right in front of you! though the "I dont have internet" complaint can still be valid... i wonder where the heck all the rest of the tobii population is too :(
The tobii staff is very helpful. And I think partially the idea behind this forum site is that we, users share our experiences, exchange ideas, etc... while some member of staff helps us out on question proved to be too complicated to be answered by us. Only two things are missing for this. One is, that there is no real communication on here between the users, second is that staff doesn`t seem to be here either. And as we look at things, these two pillars would and should keep this forum / community alive.
Other thing is, which I have already mentioned beforehand, that tobii users might find it difficult to use this site. Not to mention that some of us are simply not on the level to have discussions about problems with their tobiis. Or just simply cannot express themselves. But than again, my question is, where are the parents, the carers, speech theraphysts? Some users haven`t been active for around half a year. Okay, this can be due to medical reasons as well.
Maybe all tobii users are happy with what they have got and have no ideas whatsoever on how things could and should be improved in their interest?

I think people's lives get busy, and they just forget to come and post sometimes too. Alin's idea of notification of new or updated forum topics that one subscribes to is used very frequently on other websites, so I assume it's not a big deal to add that feature. That would also remind people about the site, and would also get people's attention in an easier way.
For instance, I love this site and have learned a lot here. I have been very busy lately, so have not thought of spending some time on this site. However, Chris sent me an email (actually a facebook message that I was notified of via email) to let me know there were some great discussions going on here, so I came.
Now, if during the week, I got an email about a specific topic I was interested in, I think I would be much more likely to come here...
just my $0.02
I agree with JessB and think the web design team should add it to their priority list to get a subscription feature implemented... it would really make this place better by not forcing me to remember to come... my memory sucks.. ahh if only there were IMPLANTABLE HARD DRIVES!!!
Looks like we all aggree. I just say lets wait until tobii staff finishes with the revised version of this website.

A few suggestions here about this site.
If new posts came up as first posts in a thread I personally would find it easier to use this site.
I think it would be better for us if in the tobii software`s browser there was a dwell clock instead of the mouse cursor, showing how much longer do I have to look at the same point. This applies to when I sign into this community site, too.
And not about this site, but the tobii software itself. I find it really hard to scroll down to the bottom of the email list all the time when I receive a new letter.

The ability to dynamically change the thread order would be nice and is seen in phpBB3 installations
Hi all!
This is my first post on mytobiicommunity, but for sure not my last...
My name is Thomas Nordén and I will start working at the Tobii in the middle of June. One of my areas of responsibilities will be the mytobii community, so you should expect to hear more from men here.
I haven’t officially started yet, so I can’t promise anything regarding the development of mytobiicommunity, but I can say that your suggestions for improving the forum are very reasonable. So let us see what we can do, come July…
Until then, I hope that you will continue to keep the community alive and kicking. And please, keep giving us feedback on how we can improve.
Take care,
Thomas

@Thomas... indeed we will keep this community alive..
*starts IV pump*
that should do it ;)
(hint... its a medical joke :D)
hey Tom,
good to hear you will keep an eye on this site besides other members of tobii. welcome here.
I will do my best to put as much feedback into this forum as possible.

Yes they have been, but i am still wondering about the subscription feature and email notification features!
correct and new comments system doesn`t work either. :(
Chris

Uh-Oh... your right chris....
debug time!
I just go through all the threads on daily basis so I can see if there has been a comment posted somewhere. I wouldn`t know of the changes without this though. An email notification system would come in handy.

You are perfectly right, Chris!
I guess this is the place for all the ideas as this topic was here prior to other similar ones.

a quick note.
in the new user blog post review window the post date is incorrect. the date shown is 1 jan 1970. after posting the blog date is correct.

Hi Chris!
Strange. If you mean the preview page when you are posting a blog post I can't reproduce the same error. I get todays date.
I beleive you but this is what has happened to me.

Wasnt Jan 1 1970 the last "UNIX epoch"
Yes it was, you are right.
My ideas on how to improve this site have drifted off to my user blog. If I think there is more than a few words to an idea than I will post to the user blog from now on. check them out.

now what we need are some formatting tags like [b] for bold and [i] for italic [u] for underline
yes, and a nice flashy mytobiicommunity logo

Hi,
I apologize for the lack of activity from Tobiians recently; Sara Hyléen kept us well reminded about this place, and since she left for her maternity leave, we've become lax. She'll be back at the turn of the year, but we won't have to wait that long for more activity.
Thomas has stated now, and we can expect improvements in the community site soonish.
Cheers,
Jane Walerud
Nice to hear that Jane!
May I wish all the best to Sara and the baby for the future? could you please forward my wishes? Thanks a lot!

just noticed, that i don`t get a notification about private messages. i guess this could be changed...
Chris
pro tobii user
also noticed that when replying to a private message i get directed to a blank page. if i want to carry on using the site i have to go to the main page again. :(
Chris
pro tobii user
In my opinion I think the private message system is heavily work in progress. Therefore we see all the "broken'ness"
I have asked the web agency to take a look at this, but for the moment they, or our contact person Fabian rather, is away on vacation. Until he comes back I am afraid that we have to live with the private messaging as it is.

I was thinking and the following came across. What if there was a direct link to an eye controlled version of this forum - a cell or something like that - in the software that comes with all tobii devices? that would attract more people hopefully.
