MyTobii device + Mac
I was unsure where to put this, so if your a moderator and you want it elsewhere please do move the topic.
Anyway, the MyTobii is a Windows based system as I know. Directly controlling a Macintosh would be difficult due to the eye tracker not being understood by a Macintosh probably, I would have to get my hands on a device to find that out. But by theory VNC (Virtual Network Computing), A protocol that allows one to connect to another computer and see and manipulate it's screen and sometimes hear its sound from within a window on another computer may work by allowing the MyTobii user to control the Macintosh through the VNC connection all from within the MyTobii's Windows system...
Anyone with a Tobii and a Mac want to verify this theory for me?

I can verify that your theory does work.
You just have to use either mouse control or create a grid for the windows application.

Now if any of you current tobii users have a mac laying around, lets try plugging into the tobii and mac and see if direct control is possible... I have doubts about that though.
should be possible i think but will look more into it tomorrow for you

Welcome to the Chris forum... its almost like no one else posts, it seems like me and you are the most active members as of right now, we should PWN this forum! (own)
I wish the other users (tobii users, carers, people interested in the technology, etc...) were more active. Simply because more eyes can see more; more problems, ideas could be discussed here.
So come on people out there! Join in and share your experience with the other users. Please.

The great king of tobii has spoken!!! follow his orders or thou shall suffer grave consequences...
Just kidding, please, join, we need more members, WE NEED MORE PROBLEMS!!! OR WE STARVE!!! PROBLEMS = FOOD = YUM YUM YUM!!
Have you ever thought about this Alin? It is only us, who try to make things a bit better? I am sure that there are better users than me out there, or better in certain ways. I just they were here to discuss the usage of the tobii units with them.
But please. This topic has a title. And that title is not about moaning about little number of users but about the tobii + Mac.

This is slightly off topic, but not entirely. Being a Mac devotee I was happy to stumble accross this link: http://atmac.org/
It is not a spot on Tobii+Mac link, but still...

Very intersting link, Thomas! Thanks!
yeah, interesting link if you are a mac user. also interesting to see apple`s approach to assistive technology in comparison to microsoft`s. I think we, MS users, should look into assistive settings in windows more.
I still think, tobii should come up with a mac compatible software. there must be plenty of users out there who learnt computing on their macs who are in need of an eye controlled assistive technology computer. not to mention the american market, being the market where the most apple computers are sold.
and in alin`s interest (the owner of the thread): he could really do with a mac compatible tobii.

indeed apple does a lot of AT setups... in fact about 90% o the computers in my special needs school in elementary were macs!
Macintobii!!!!!!! I WANT ONE!!!!!!!!!
i have been on mac since i was little... having to go back to windows (been total mac since 2005 intermittant since first year of school) would be iMPOSSIBLE! going back to CRASHING and CRAPPYNESS i dont think so!
I would slightly disaggree. The two OSs are not to compare as they are for different needs and work on different basis as well.

chris as you say windows is better for certain people mac is better for me... so to me in my own opinion windows definitely does not fit my needs.
windows question. I am working with a student using a Tobii. How can I set it up so she can mouse click and run power point story books.
I am also beginning to help a young diehard mac user with ALS and looking like Tobii is the way to go. Wish we could MAC.
Do you know of any onscreen keyboards other than viking that can Tobii?
Thanks wizards!
I know theres VS communicator and then there is sensory software Grid 2
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326533
this might help with the mouse issue
as for mac issue ... i wish i could do something
I have not explored the grid. I will look at that. Thanks for the help!
ask chris147 about it he loves it!
a powerpoint presentation can be opened in several ways with a tobii P10. by hitting f5 the slideshow starts, and by pressing the right arrow key it progresses by one step. By pressing the left arrow key the opposite happens. you can quit the presentation any time by pressing the esc key.
please take a look at my youtube videos where you can see how the grid 2 works: http://youtube.com/user/mobiletobii I`m planning to upload some more videos of me using my tobii. :) maybe I should film one about the grid 2. if you have any question about the grid 2 just ask.
