I am a new MyTobii user (about 2 months). We (my mom and my educational assistants) are still working out the kinks and getting to know the computer. I love the freedom of being able to use my eyes and not having to hit a switch.
I am confined to my bed and use the wall mount. At first it was very difficult to get the angle and distance right. BUT with a little perserverence we have made it work. Our custodians bolted it through a brick wall. It is very secure.

Hi Ryan, great to hear from you and I'm glad that you're enjoying MyTobii. What communication solution did you use previously and what's the major difference in using MyTobii compared to that?
Best,
Sara

Hi Sara,
I am excited to communicate with MyTobii. Before I got it I used a Dynavox 3100 and a scan buddy on my laptop. The major difference in using MyTobii is it is easier for me to use my eyes than my chin on a switch. I like the word prediction. I would like to know what you use and what you used before? How old are you? I like this visiting like this.

Hi to Sara and Ryan and everyone else in this forum,
My name is Bob and I'm the education officer with the Scottish Motor Neurone Disease Association. We're in the process of purchasing a "MyTobii" which will be used by patients whose limbs have been paralysed by MND (ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease, depending on where you're from).
It is highly probable that our first user of the machine will be a 16 year old girl suffering from this condition. As existing users, what do you think are the important things I should make sure that we get right with the installation to get her up and running as fast as possible? Distance and positioning are obviously important, what did you think were the ones that worked best for you.
The user will be seated in a wheelchair and the MyTobii will be deskmounted to begin with.
Although I've trialed the MyTobii for about 5 minutes at a seminar, and was convinced of its usefulness for people with MND I was unaware of its text prediction facility as I didn't use it that much. Obviously, there will be other useful features that we should be aware of.
Any hints and tips from you and other users would be most welcome.
Best wishes to everyone,
Bob

Hello Bob,
Even though Sara and I are Tobii employees and not users ourselves, I'd like to send out a few key features I think might be helpful for a new user. Hopefully Ryan and other MyTobii users can add any input they might have (I'd also recommend contacting Kathrin, who is an expert user and she might be able to give more input).
The MyTobii software itself does not have word prediction but many of the users I work with utilize VS Communicator's word prediction software to speed up typing and decrease fatigue. Having word prediction that learns can be a wonderful feature for speeding up communication. A fun way to demonstrate that is by typing in your name a few times and then watching it come up in the word prediction.
The MyTobii web browser is a great feature that makes using the internet with eye control much easier and can decrease fatigue as well. I would definitely recommend checking out that feature with new users as well.....being able to surf the net without requiring external support can give a lot of freedom!
Also, our new Media Player can be a pretty powerful feature for people who enjoy music. Music needs to be downloaded on the computer first, but having the freedom to play whatever songs you want (as loudly as you want!) can be really exciting!
Best of luck to you and your organization with your MyTobii!
