How early can you start celebrating Christmas?

| Category:
Are we spreading the seasons too much and missing the actual reason for celebrating??

Aron talked in an earlier blog about ginger cookies in November and now at my latest trip to London November 22-23, I for the first time this year saw Christmas trees for sale at a market!
Why?? Who is willing to buy a Christmas tree in the end of November and will the tree at all survive until Christmas?
Is this a whish for prolonging the Christmas??
What do you say? Aren’t we spreading the seasons too much and missing the actual reason for celebrating??

Eye control open new doors

Yet another conference behind me! Closing the Gap in Minneapolis is a niche conference focusing on AAC. We met professionals and private persons who wanted to try out our eye controlled devices.

Yet another conference behind me! Closing the Gap in Minneapolis is a niche conference focusing on AAC. There was a great interest in the MyTobii eye controlled devices but also in the new release of VS Communicator – a comprehensive communication software from the Tobii subsidiary Viking Software.

VS Communicator includes a broad range of ready made displays for both text based and symbol based communication. It has built in functionality for speech generation, text messaging and e-mail and it’s open for all input methods, from scanning to eye control.

Speech Pathologists and other professionals at CTG really fancied the features for creating and editing displays. A free demo version can be ordered directly from Viking Software at sales@viking-software.com.

One very special moment was when I got to help a 10 year old girl with Cerebral Palsy to try the MyTobii. Today she has no tool to communicate with her family and they really don’t know what level of understanding she has. When she managed to focus on the calibration (which was done with a giraffe instead of a dot) and thereafter looked at and clicked on different symbols with here eyes, it was a moment of “wow” for both her parent and me!

Have you ever had a moment like that?

Cheers,
Sara

From basic needs to human interaction

Roger demoing the MyTobii at Rehacare
Working at the Tobii headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden my chances of meeting MyTobii users are a bit limited. However going to conventions and conferences is a great opportunity for me to meet you.

In early October I attended to the Rehacare trade show in Düsseldoft, Germany, and it was great meeting MyTobii users, such as Kathrin Lemler and people looking for an eye controlled communication device. I met with and spoke to people from all over Europe and it seems like the challenges shift regarding practical issues like funding etc.

But the need for a non-intrusive communication device is equally great all over. Many people need a sophisticated tool to be able to develop their communication from basic needs to human interaction!

This week I will go to Minneapolis, USA, to attend to the conference Closing the Gap and I’m very excited about meeting users and professionals from this continent to share their experiences.

Would you like to share your story? Just post it on the community or send me a private message!
