Here is a tip that helped me immensely while using eye tracking in windows mouse control. I had a problem selecting from the File, Edit, View menu of most software I used. In order to resolve this problem:

 1. I went into Display settings in the Control Panel.
 2. Chose the appearance tab.
 3. Chose the Advanced button
 4. In the Advanced Appearance window, under Item, I chose Menu.
 5. I set the size of Menu to 32
 6. I then set the size of the Font to 12

Now I have no problems selecting menu items.

P10 Tips and Tricks...I need your help!

| Category:

MyTobii P10 Users, Professionals, Family Members....please submit your special tips on what you've found to be most helful in using the P10!

Happy Summer!

As a summertime project, I am collecting any P10 tips and helpful hints you may have that you think would benefit other P10 users. These tips could include:

 • suggestions for transporting the P10,
 • any special tricks for initial set up,
 • what has worked best for accessing...the clock, dot, or invisible settings,
 • how you use it for accessing e-mail,
 • special calibration tips,
 • what you would recommend for a new user just starting out with it,
 • using the P10 with a wheelchair battery,
 • etc. etc.

I have created a forum for "P10 Tips" in the Users section and I hope it will be filled with as many helpful hints as possible by the end of the summer! :) I will take that information and sort through it so we can be sure that new P10 users have it available as well.

I have already started out the forum with a tip that I received from a colleague earlier this year.

Many thanks for your help!!

Don't try this with your MyTobii!!!

The shattered screen of a MyTobii P10.
How resilient is the MyTobii P10??? Well, we certainly don't want you to try this at home, but we now have proof that it still works, even when it falls from a height of 4 feet.

A colleague of mine rang to tell me that she had a client who was thrilled with the MyTobii! In fact, he was so excited about it he accidently hit his power chair controls and crashed into the table the MyTobii was mounted on!

The table tipped over, and resulted in the MyTobii P10 falling from a height of 4 feet and the screen landing on the edge of the user’s wheelchair footplate. Thankfully, the user was uninjured. And this provided us with some interesting feedback on what exactly happens when the P10 falls and the screen is smashed.

The answer??

It still works!!!!!!

It’s not every computer that you can drop from 4 feet and shatter the screen and still have operational. The MyTobii P10 is really a well-designed and well-made machine!

Understandably the touchscreen does not work, although you can still plug in a USB mouse and keyboard. But more importantly, the eye control features still work as normal!!

If you think about it, the desgin of the P10 is pretty amazing!! Having the camera and sensors built inside the device prevented them from being scratched or broken off. The casing of the P10 is pretty resilient and can withstand bangs and bumps (and crashes!) so the computer functions itself are secure.

It is also a credit to the camera, sensor design and software that the P10 can still calibrate just fine…despite having shards of the broken screen glittering and reflecting light in strange ways.

It is truly amazing!!!

But again….we do not recommend trying this at home!!

Kind regards,
Erin

Eyes on eye tracking – Swedish study on AAC devices

| Category:
I am looking for participants for a usability study on AAC devises!

Eye tracking is fairly new way of interacting with computers and so far the numbers of users of this technology are limited. My guess is that many of the users who are using other AAC devices today could better benefit from using eye tracking. To gain more insight into how efficient different technologies are and how they are used today I am doing a masters project at Tobii. I’m interested in how you experience the usability of your devise!

The study will be in two parts:

 • Measuring typing speed for different devices
 • Gather information about the use and experience of different devices through a questionnaire

Time and place for the study will be set by the participant, who can remain anonymous. As a sign of appreciation the participant will receive a gift certificate for flowers, a cinema ticket or a lottery ticket.

Is there anyone out there who is willing to participate in this study? Are you using eye tracking, switches, joy stick, head mouse or other AAC devise? – send me a message!

I’m looking forward to comments on this topic!
